Last year, Australia became the first country in the world to legalize clinical prescribing of MDMA, more commonly known as ecstasy, and psilocybin for certain mental health disorders. Elite athletes experience mental health disorder symptoms and psychological distress at similar, if not higher, rates to the general population, researchers pointed out in a study published in the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology. Researchers in the field say that psychedelics are shown to work when treating some mental health conditions. Later, he founded Wesana Health, a biotechnology company which focuses on developing psychedelic medicine for mental health, the most recent being a CBD and psilocybin-based drug. Since her retirement as a professional athlete, Symonds explains that she uses psychedelic drugs for clarity, though not under the direction of a doctor.

Artemi Panarin scored 10 seconds into overtime and the Rangers beat the crosstown-rival Islanders 6-5 in a Stadium Series game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Rangers coach Peter Laviolette was behind the bench for his fifth outdoor game, tying Joel Quenneville for the most in NHL history, and got his first win in the open air. The Islanders pulled four points behind Detroit for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference. After the Rangers pulled within one in the second period, Romanov pushed the Islanders’ lead back up to 5-3 at 1:53 of the third. The Rangers then had a 4-on-3 power play with just under six minutes to go, and Laviolette pulled Shesterkin for a two-man advantage.

TORONTO (AP) — Even during the All-Star break, Nathan MacKinnon kept thinking ahead to the second half of the NHL season. “Everyone’s going to be playing a lot of hockey here the next couple months, so consistency’s big,” Crosby said. “There’s other teams playing good hockey, so, yeah, we got to win games.”MVP REPEAT? A month in, the launch of the Professional Women's Hockey League has been by all accounts a resounding win, from multiple attendance records being broken to the quality of play. Women's players have been involved in NHL All-Star Weekend several times now, including longtime U.S. captain Kendall Coyne Schofield stealing the show in the fastest skater event in the 2019 skills competition. Minnesota on Jan. 6 set the record for the biggest crowd to attend a professional women's hockey game with 13,316 at the Wild's home arena in St. Paul. “We’ll continue to lean in and work with the women’s players and have them as part of our world,” Mayer said. “It just makes it a better event.”The only thing that would be better, Coyne Schofield said, is having every PWHL player taking part.

Patrick Kane is joining the Detroit Red Wings for the rest of the season, choosing the championship-rich franchise over other suitors for the four-time All-Star's return to the NHL from hip surgery. After the Blackhawks and New York Rangers he joined after a pre-deadline trade, the Red Wings are set to become Kane’s third Original Six team. Kane had similar control as a free agent, letting the market and the first month of the season play out before talking to interested teams. The Red Wings and Blackhawks were longtime, bitter rivals until Detroit was shifted from the Western to the Eastern Conference in 2013 as part of realignment. Kane follows a similar path to the player he's chasing for the U.S. scoring record: Mike Modano, who played 20 seasons for the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars before finishing his career with the Red Wings.

November 21 - The Florida Panthers, who will go for their third straight win when they play host to the Boston Bruins Wednesday night, are getting an unexpected contribution from defenseman Niko Mikkola. July 1, the Panthers signed Mikkola to a three-year, $7.8 million contract. Indeed, in just 18 games this season, Mikkola - who made his NHL debut in January 2020 - has already matched his career high with three goals. The Bruins led that series 3-1 before Florida won the next two and then took Game 7 in overtime. That game was atypical for Boston as the Bruins have allowed more than two goals just four times this season -- all losses.

CNN —A “crazy amount of emotions” ran through TJ Oshie’s mind as he watched footage of what would be American hockey player Adam Johnson’s final moments on the ice. The English Ice Hockey Association has announced that all players must wear neck guards from the start of next year, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Johnson’s former NHL team, are mandating neck guards for their minor league players, coach Mike Sullivan has said. In the NHL, neck guards – let alone neck coverings of any kind – are not a common sight. “I think there is a machismo within ice hockey where you’re seen as being something less if you choose to wear more protective equipment,” ice hockey broadcaster Seth Bennett tells CNN Sport. Warroad’s neck guards are fitted with Kevlar and steel components, ensuring that they have enough stiffness to stay upright and offer effective coverage around the neck.

(AP) — Nick Bjugstad and Nick Schmaltz scored in the shootout, and the Arizona Coyotes recovered after giving up a two-goal lead and rallied to beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3 on Friday night. Schmaltz also had a goal and an assist in regulation, and Matt Dumba and Sean Durzi also scored for the Coyotes in their regular season opener. Bjugstad and Schmaltz scored on Arizona's two attempts in the shootout, and Vejmelka stopped New Jersey's Timo Meier and Bratt to secure the win. “It was a disappointing start to the game; first period again,” Devils coach Lindy Ruff said of his team's slow start. Bratt got his second goal of the game with 1:07 remaining in the second to put New Jersey ahead 3-2.

Employees knew they were getting promoted if Pick told them to wear a tie the following day, an ex-managing director recalled. While Morgan Stanley currently trades at a premium among its Wall Street peers, its enviable success isn't thanks to Pick. Succession has traditionally been a bloody sport on Wall Street, and Morgan Stanley is no exception. Six years ago, the Madison Square Garden Company, a group that includes James Dolan, the owner of the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers, announced a triumphant entrance into sports’ next frontier: a professional video game league. As e-sports revenue fell below expectations and investors became skeptical of the industry, Madison Square Garden’s owners last year tried to find a way out of the business by selling their marquee team. After years of fanfare, e-sports in the United States are giving way to economic realities. Unable to turn a profit, team owners are cutting costs by laying off employees and ending contracts with star players. In some cases, they are selling their teams and sometimes at a loss, offering a blunt reality check to people who believed e-sports could be the next big thing in entertainment.
